‘One of the great buildings of the world’
– Sir John Betjeman
A dark and rainy winter afternoon last year. Liverpool Cathedral is a complicated and difficult building to draw. I was in my hometown to show paintings in ‘Who is My Neighbour?’, an exhibition about migration and refugee issues.
… we must have just missed one another! At least we’ve met on the internet, which is great 👍
This lovely drawing takes me back – I went to art school in Liverpool – at the time the college was divided into several buildings, most of which were between this cathedral and the Metropolitan up the road. Both great in different ways… Thanks for the reminder, Maxine 🙂
…at the time ‘when’ the college was divided…. Oh my fingers!!!
I did my Foundation Art course in Liverpool, 81-82. Where you there then, Maxine?
I graduated in 81 and left college the day after the 81 riots! We were loading our pictures into a van we’d hired and a policeman stood guard until we’d finished. Exciting times you could say! 👍
Your drawing has great freshness and confidence.
