Gledhow Valley Woods

I’ve been reviewing my work for the next exhibition. These are the woods in autumn, winter and early spring.

Even though it's October, it still feels like summer . There is a lot of green foliage about and the sun is shining. It's warm enough to be out in a tee-shirt.

Gledhow Woods in Leeds, March. The air is grey and cold. There are no leaves on the trees. The autumn leaves are still lying on the ground.

I have really struggled to paint woodland scenes – overpainting usually. You have a simple understated approach here that is very effective.
